2009 CAR #72 ::: Talula The Party Bus
|
2006 CAR #70 ::: Pingu Felix
|
Our first ever rally car was an Orion 1.4 LXi, which was so named because he was black and white. Purchased from
Skegness he gave us the chance to have a trip to the seaside! Pingu Felix lost it's exhaust on the rally, and managed to
drive through a monsoon and 2ft flooding. He also topped out at 115mph, which for a 1.4 was a tad impressive.
Unfortunately the car kept severely overheating, and after driving through the flood smelt a bit! Still he lives on in the Top
Trumps 'Banger Rally' card game.
2007 ATTEMPT No.1 ::: Pingu Felix II
|
This Mondeo 2.0 Si was bought of a dodgy dodgy man from Wales, and was a complete shed. Still we took the nice Si
interior out for the next attempt!
Although this RS1800 was ready to go Steve (so-named as its number plate was STV) never made it to the rally as two
team members dropped out and we only took the one car. After the rally it did go on a track day, where it promptly ran out
of oil and needed an engine change.
2007 CAR #70 ::: P3 aka The STD
|
Here we have the only car out of three that we bought in 2007 that actually made it on to the rally. A week after its purchase
Malc's now ex-mrs crashed it in a car park, and the majority of the stickers were load bearing after covering up the bodge
job repair. Whilst on the rally it was discovered that the fuel gauge told less truth that the Iraqi information minister, and as
such led us to run out of diesel on a one contra-flow on the A1. Ever seen four Englishmen pushing a Mondeo down an
Italian motorway? Unfortunately the 'Super Touring Diesel' cost too much to put through it's MOT on it's return.
2008 CAR #72 Mk1 ::: Pingu Donkey Marie
|
This was team 72's first 2008 purchase, that somehow had a full MOT, even though we jacked it up and it split in half, as it
was as rusty as hell, and held together with tape. Anyway, it's fate was sealed when Tom crashed it into a bush.
2008 CAR #72 Mk2 ::: Pingu Donkey Marie II

This 1.8 LX was the replacement for the previously bought 1.6 LX estate, and was the most mechanically sound rally car we
have ever taken on a rally. However, after getting us to Calais on Night 0, and all the way to Switzerland on Day 1, it
decided to snap it's cambelt just inside the border. Shame, because it was a bloody nice car! Thankfully Tom did insist on
RAC cover!
2008 CAR #72 Mk3 ::: The Party Bus
|
So the RAC gave us a boring school run Opel Zafira as our hire car, would that stop us turning it into a car that deserved to
be on the rally? Nope! So we created the Party Bus! Our handy work was genuinely appreciated by the other rally teams,
and was cheered when driven past the night time check-ins. We also taught some Dutch tourists how to sing 'Partyyyy Bus!
Unbeliveably our 1.7CDTi hire car topped out at 136mph on the Autobahn! Our fiend is sorely missed :(
This super rally mobile started out as a 2.0 LX, and ended as a mish mash of metal. Pingu Smurfy Bob, despite 200,00 plus
miles on the clock, finished the rally and didn't miss a beat. We were all looking forward to finally using the same car for
more than one rally. But as with all our best laid plans, it never quite happened as intended. On the way back home, the car
was involved in an accident on the famous Stelviopass.

As an ode to the original Party Bus, we found this little beauty on eBay and won her for £130.00. Named after the original
name for the bobsled in Cool Runnings, Talula The Party Bus is also known as Project Eskoda, The Espactic, or Party Bus
II. We have some exciting plans for her for the CRX09, so watch this space!
